SKY, WE SALUTE YOU registers over 200,000 downloads and counting!
It's just a number, but it represents a broken personal record for me. Though I had a song named the number 8 BEST ROCK RECORD OF 2006, and I had a cameo on a chart-topping, MTV-Award-nominated music video, without playing or singing a note, to the best of my knowledge, I've never had an original song of mine surpass 200,000 downloads.
Sky Saxon reflected the same, raw, genuine, fiercely independent spirit that was in Buck Owens. It's the reason why the song by Sky and his group, The Seeds, Pushin' To Hard, is looked upon by many critics as a foreshadowing of punk music that would follow a decade later.
When I heard that Sky Saxon of the Seeds (Pushin' too Hard) passed away last summer, a song came to me instantly. That morning I penned and put together a rough recording of a tribute song to Sky entitled, "Sky, We Salute You."
I was, quite frankly, embarrassed about the poor sound quality and later recorded a more professional version, but it's that rough edition that people ended up going crazy over, and it's the one that has, as of March 24, 2010, registered over 200,000 downloads per Go Daddy Site Analytics.
Watch for my song on this CD, to be released later this year:
