Resurrectin' Buck: Official Fourth Anniversary BUCK OWENS MEMORIAL SHRINE

Today, March 25, marks the anniversary of the passing away of Buck Owens.  So I thought I'd start an official shrine, were visitors can post their own poems, tribute songs and words of remembrance and tribute to Buck Owens.

I'm going to lead the way, with the lyrics to a song I'll be recording and posting here next week.  It's an original Buck Owens tribute called RESURRECTIN' BUCK.  Then feel free to post your tributes in the comments section below.

Resurrectin’ Buck

Words and music by Dr BLT copyright 2010

I was on my way to work just the other day

When a train came and caused a big delay

Rosedale Highway was blocked for miles and miles

So I pulled off

And found another way

the detour that I took

brought back memories

of a man who left his mark

such a legacy

the church that held his funeral

was standin’ there

and I could hear that

old familiar prayer

chorus:

forgive me lord, forgive me lord

yes, I’m aware it’s almost Easter time

forgive me lord, forgive me lord

I’m resurrectin’ Buck inside my mind

(repeat after instrumental solo)

I can't claim to be anything more than a fan of Buck Owens. I never met or worked with him as many of you have. I will say this, however: How many artists finish their last day on this earth playing their own music, in their own club, with their own band. Not to mention this club being just a part of a city block of his own media & entertainment complex. On his last night here, he almost didn't play, but chose to anyway because someone had travelled from out of state to see him. He could have lived anywhere, and could have retired at any time. He chose to stay here and keep playing for us.
There will never be another Buck Owens

In more ways than one, Buck made choices in his life that have made countless marks in this community and this world. Buck "came here looking for something", and made more than something happen. I'm not sure that he couldn't have made a huge mark in a million other places, but I personally feel that Bakersfield Sound, Ca would not have had the exact identity it seems to be so famous for throughout the world of music, history and entertainment. Buck, thank you, Dorothy and your entire family and staff for making a mark that has personally driven me to continually "do more" in this, and other communities across America. As I drove the writer of "Streets of Bakersfield" Homer Joy, to UCLA today, we spoke of all the things that people can grow and benefit from. All the hard times that lead to better days. All the skeptic walls and soiled villans that would rather try and tear efforts down than help you simply Build Something while you're simply just trying to find your calling. Buck, I'm glad you chose to stop here and "Build" everything you did. Now I'm both Sad for our Loss and Humbled by our gain when I Proudly say "For all Eternity The Buck Stopped Here" God Bless, Rockwell of TROUT'S & The Blackboard Stages, Bakersfield Sound, Ca.

a bit to soon for a life like that to end.
he walks the streets of heaven, where the honky tonk angels sing, he walks the streets of heaven, can't you hear Buck's old git-are ring?

I thought I heard your git-are down the hall, I thought I saw your shadow on the wall.
but he walks the streets of heaven, where the honky tonk angels sing, he walks the streets of heaven, can't you hear Buck's old git-are ring?
Sometimes life just don't seem to fair. I thought I saw you standing over by the stairs -but you left sometime just before the dawn, I went out and put flowers on the Palace lawn.
