The Bakersfield Sound of Music recording project for the homeless is progressing from its once inchoate state and, to reference this Halloween Day, we're beginning to put some meat on this skeleton.  The project, centers around one grand, multi-artist, multi-band medley, one written by yours truly and produced by Mark Yeary (known best as a crucial member of Merle Haggard and the Strangers, and for being Merle's right-hand man for nearly 20 years).    Other bonus tracks will be included, though it's not clear yet, whether that will consist of an EP or a maxi CD/mp3 single.  The profits will be donated to Bakersfield Homeless Shelter of the Bethany Program right here in Bakersfield.

Mark Yeary and I got together Thursday to work on strategy.   The next step in terms of the Christmas medley, will be gathering the singers together for auditions.  That process will begin next week.  Mark's girlfriend, Latisha has been extremely helpful in organizing, strategizing, and supporting this project.  Right now we're focusing on the singers.  Here's a link to a blog that includes the lyrics and the music for the medley, for all of you prospective singers:

The bonus tracks are where my good friend, guitar master, and skillful producer, Brain comes in.  As noted in the audio podcast posted here, Brian and I began working on The Gift that Keeps on Giving (Celebrate) on Friday.

A second track Brian and I are converting into a multi-artist/multi-band track is a song of mine he produced last Christmas, Billy Wants a Job for Christmas

The for the feedback, Kama. The full length version may be available on a mini-sampler CD that Dr. BLT shared with the community at the Great Harvest Bread Company in Bakersfield. It's one of my favorite musical projects with Dr. BLT, who was wise enough to preserve the original version after receiving my input. This is what makes Dr. BLT a rock star...or, in this case, a country star. His receptivity to divergent ideas has helped him to build a musical legacy that I predict will endure through the ages.
