Penny Marie adds vocal to Billie Jean duet, Rockwell deftly fills in for Monty Byrom

It's been quite a busy week as it concerns recording projects and rising stars.  Both Penny Marie and Rockwell made their Dr BLT recording debuts, Penny adding a stellar vocal as my duet counterpart on the country remake of Michael Jackson's Billie Jean, and Rockwell deftly filling in for Monty Byrom, who apparently was not able to make the session to record a vocal track he and I had planned on White Lies about White Guys.

I think that this sample will reveal to you the star power of Penny Marie.

Kim McAbee's backup track, and Jerry Rothberg's backup vocal track will be added further in the final mix, and Theresa Spanke also plans to add another layer of harmony.

Rockwell became the hero of the day.  Everyone was expecting Monty Byrom to sing with me and add possibly add his lead guitar parts, as Monty and I had originally planned, but as noted, Monty Byrom was unable to attend (and we wish him the best, and hope he's okay).  So Rockwell, being the supportive gentleman that he is stepped in an blew everybody away with the remarkable job that he did.  Him and I plan to go back in to do a little editing on what we put down, and add some more instruments, but here's a sample of what we have so far.  I was so excited about Rockwell's part that I couldn't hold out for the final mix (sorry Rockwell):

Reggie Langendorfer, who runs the studio also added lead guitar and bass on Billie Jean and, in addition to my vocal track, I added a rhythm guitar track.  Pat Frase's deft drum tracks are featured on both recordings.

So, just in case folks thought the Bakersfield sound, as a phenomenon, is over, and is a thing of the past, this is an example of the exciting action that represents the evolution of the Bakersfield sound.  We are standing on the shoulders of giants like Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Ferlin Husky and many more to move it forward and to show folks that the Bakersfield sound is alive and well, and has only just begun.

You all rocked!  Keep up the great work!
