First a Princess, now a Songbird: Theresa Spanke to add her talents to country version of MJ's Billie Jean
When I witnessed her performance at Homer Joy's birthday party at the Crystal Palace in 2008, and wrote this song based on the inspiration this songbird gave me, I had no idea that one day she would be recording in the studio with me on a country version of a Michael Jackson song. But this "songbird" with the voice of an angel will be contributing her talents to the song, adding a second layer of harmony to the beautiful harmony that the woman I call the Princess of the Palace, Kim McAbee has already laid down. These women have sung with the best of the best, including Buck Owens himself. So the fact that they would devote their talents to the new country arrangement of this Michael Jackson song I put together, simply blows me away. If an underdog like me can draw in talent like this, it could eventually threaten my underdog status, but if I can trade that status in for success, who am I to complain?
Theresa, thanks for offering your talents towards this MJ cover! This one's for you:

The Songbird
she was singin'
like an angel
perched in The Palace
singin' like an angel
to the crowd
she was singin' like a songbird
a songbird is what I heard
and I hung on to
every single word
chorus:
flyin' away
with the songbird
she took us
high in the sky
flyin' away
with the songbird
I'll remember this night
'till I die
it was Homer Joy's birthday
Trent Willmon had just played
Homer sang
The Streets of Bakersfield
from the streets to the skyline
a taste like sweet wine
the songbird
captured a glorious moment in time
(chorus)
