Kama's Korner: Kama Ruby rocks the town tonight!

Kama Ruby

Welcome to Kama's Korner, the new blog series that will allow experimental Bakersfield sound artists to follow the burgeoning, blossoming career of this jazz singer, actress, and all-around multi-talented young diva.  So, what's a jazzy singer doing on a country music blog, you ask?  Well, may I remind you about what you might be forgetting.  The whole Bakersfield Sound Underground concept is about being experimental.  The Bakersfield Sound Garden (TM) that I attend to here is noted for the variety of musical plants and flowers that bloom, and are nurtured here by the gardeners.  Music, no matter what genre, can become like a stagnant pond if we become isolationists, and don't allow fresh water to enter from divergent streams.

Kama has done to the Doors Light My Fire what I am attempting to do with Michael Jackson's Billie Jean, give it my own flavor, in my case, a Kern County country rock or Kccock flavor, in Kama's case, a jazzy, sensual, sultry flavor.  Mixing it up, taking risks, busting genres, that's what the BSUnderground is all about.

Check out her myspace page:

Check her out at La Coursee Rouge tonight at 7:30 pm:

Kama Ruby is the featured act this week at the Jazz Workshop. She'll be doing some jazz standards and some jazzy interpretations of some rock classics, including the Stones' Wild Horses and The Doors' Light My Fire. She's also doing Maroon 5's Secret.

Welcome to the BSU community, Kama.  Please visit here often as you are now officially and honored guest and featured artist.  It's no big secret that some of you visiting this site are big-time stars and record producers, but please don't be a snob.  Leave your egos at the blog door.  Let's give Kama a warm welcome everybody.
