Paying tribute to Sky Saxon of THE SEEDS: Sky led the band in breaking new creative ground

Sky Saxon
The whole concept of Bakersfield Sound Underground is one that Sky Saxon personified. It's all about standing on the shoulders of pioneers who came before you, and drawing upon the strength and spirit of each of these pioneers to boldly break new creative ground.
As the leader of his band, The Seeds, Sky planted, and carefully tilled the soil with what would later yield into a harvest, yes, even a bumper crop of punk and post-punk music. Pushin' Too Hard was their biggest hit, and it pushed the boundaries of what was stylistically conventional at the time. What Sky and the boys did to the 60s hat's something we try to emulate here at BSU right here, right now.
I woke up this morning, thought of Sky, and this song popped into my head. Sky, if you've got your eyes looking down from heaven right at this moment, this one's for you:
Sky, We Salute You

words and music by Dr BLT © 2009
Here the song via this link:
the sky is the home
of the sun and the rain
that falls down on small seeds
of beautiful grain
without it, we're lost
like a world with no tunes
and no dance on this earth
by the light of the moon
chorus:
so Sky, we salute you
we thank you for light and for rain
Sky, look upon us
and comfort hearts
stricken with pain
the sky in Montana
or in Austin, Texas
looks bigger and bolder
and even caresses
the mountains and valleys
and forests around us
and even in death
well, the sky, it surrounds us
(chorus)
you took precious seeds
and helped them to sprout and succeed
you took all the sound
and turned this old world upside down
(instrumental; verse)

sky... why oh why, sky must you fly, fly, fly, seeming so free so way up high...I see you in my mind's eye, but can not reach you... yet I feel you as you breeze bye....
There are those who come and go in our journey through life. Some leave small indentions others leave lasting impressions...and then there are those who change the world around them....Thank you Micheal for making the great big world a smaller place...

very, very cool indeed. I have a Seeds song or two on some mix discs. "pushin to hard" is a killer old tune that was way ahead of its time and yet you can hear the turbulent era in which it was made resinate in the chords and the frontman's (Saxon) expulsion of raw creativity. Saxon's gritty, in your face vocals rule as well. Love the name too (TheSeeds), oh thats really weird...I think one of their songs just came on my 400 disc changer and is playing right now...what a freaky coincidence....no wait, its just some really old pink floyd with Sid Berret on vocals...far out mayon. Q: were the Seeds on any of the Nuggets compilation albums?

I didn't mean that it was cool that Sky Saxon had died by the way. I blurted out my comment before I realized what you meant by tribute. can there be a tribute to something that still exists? I think there has been, definitely. Just cant think of one right now. also, what compilation album(s) are the Seeds featured on. I think it might be a movie soundtrack like Full Metal Jacket or Easy Rider. Wik says it is the Easy Rider soundtrack.
