Penny Lane: New series will help you track rising star Penny Marie's musical journey

This is a big week for themes borrowed from Buck's favorite rock band, The Beatles.  First, you heard a duet cover of the Beatles, Hey Jude, performed by Moriah and myself, and you were asked to "take a sad song and make it better." Now I'm about to introduce a new series named after one of the Beatles classic hits, Penny Lane.

Penny Lane is the avenue we will follow in order to track Bakersfield-born-and-raised Penny Marie's musical journey.  For me, that journey begin on a relatively cool June, day in 2009, on Truxton Avenue in Bakersfield, at the first anniversary of Darkstar Records, where I first heard her singing with Monty Byrom and the boys (and one other "girl," Theresa Spanky).  I was absolutely blown away by her performance at that event, and so I followed her here, to the homegrown studio where she was recording an unplugged version of a future hit song, penned by none other than Monte Byrom.

Next on Penny Lane, you will get to know Penny Marie through a rare interview I managed to secure from her.  So stay tuned and, by all means, remain underground as we continue to watch the Bakersfield Sound garden grow, right here at Bakersfield Sound Underground.

Sounds good! Progressive country got an ear in Bakersfield thanks to Dr. BLT, Darkstar Records, Monty Byrom , The Amazing Kid keyboard player. Chuck Seaton (Chuck...I still have your Hot Taco pick that I found on the ground. I'll save it for you), Great singers, great guitar players, great bass players, great drummers...Nashville meets Motown meets L.A. in Bakersfield. Monty could tell that I was a funk player...no mystery here! Keep the music and the interviews flowin'!
