"Kick-ass Country" comes to town

A couple of weeks ago, I predicted in this original recording that "some kick-ass country" would be coming to town.

Well, I always like to make good on my promises.  On one of the coolest June days in the history of Kern County (in more ways than one) an historic afternoon jam session took place that shook the Streets of Bakersfield that Buck, Homer Joy and Dwight Yoakam helped put on the map.

That's right, this jam session, held at the villages surrounding Darkstar Records, as a convivial, musical celebration of the venue's first anniversary will go down in the history of the evolution of the Bakersfield sound.  The kccrocker (Kern County Country rock) hootenanny featured Monty Byrom, and a Kern County all-star line-up that tended to make Ringo's all-star band look like a motley crew of neophyte amateurs.

In a seamless kccrock n roll revolving door that showcased some Bakersfield's finest talent, including Monty Byrom, Jerry Rothberg and myriad others---an event attended by young kccrockers as well as old legends like Sonny Langley time stood still and the never-ending Bakersfield sound parade embraced the past while presaging the bold future of the nu bako sound.

If you weren't headed towards the courtyard surrounding Darkstar Records, across from the Robobank Arena on Truxton Avenue on that sunny, cool June 14 afternoon, you weren't going anywhere.

As Dan Robertson, the record store owner (and walking Bakersfield sound encyclopedia, I might add) put it, the event was "...beyond my wildest dreams."  The next time I try to tell Bakersfield that "some kick-ass country is coming to town," I have a feeling Bakersfield is going to be paying attention.

By the way, see how many of these celebrities you can name in the comments section below!

What a show!  What a record store!  Darkstar, you rock!
