The Making of Billy Wants a Job: Rockers go to work for the unemployed

It was Wednesday, November 19, 2008 and the scene was Brian Benson's home recording studio.  Me and Brian had begun working on a song aimed at raising awareness of the plight of those recently laid off as a result of the steadily mounting economic crisis.  It had been a dark day on wall street, with the market recording a 427.47 drop.  Jobless claims, like those presumably filed by Billy, the main character in this song, were at a 16-year high.

But the producer and fellow rock artist, Brian Benson, and myself, were not about to let the dark economic news and the gloomy economic forecast, dampen our Christmas spirits.  We attempted to take this lemon and turn it around into something for those most directly afflicted by this economic storm.

What you're listening to here is the rough acoustic mix I presented to Brian before we went in to tear it up with a collaborative rock version of the song.  The song is from my forthcoming CD, Ice and Snow,

scheduled for release at a release party to be held at Russo's Books at the Marketplace in Bakersfield on Saturday, December 6 at 7 pm.
