It's a Long Road to Christmas: Song inspired by Haggard song will help victims of economic crisis

This is a song I'm planning on using to raise money for those most directly afflicted by the economic downturn of late.
Long Road to Christmas was inspired by Merle Haggard's If We Make it Through December, and it's about a man who finds himself without work and without money as Christmas approaches, as a result of the economic crisis of 2008. It's from the CD, Ice and Snow and can be heard here:

Thanks for the inspiration, Merle, and for giving us a spirit of charity and giving that comes in handy at Christmastime, and especially at this Christmas season, which could prove the most difficult many have encountered in decades. I wish you well as you continue to recover from your recent surgery.

I don’t know how I’m gonna make it
to Texas for that Christmas cheer
I can’t even fill up my gas tank
it’s a long road to Christmas this year
the bills ain’t been paid since October
my family is hungry and cold
I don’t know how we’re gonna make it
it’s a long road to Christmas this year
chorus:
but we’ll skimp
and we’ll save
as we wait for Christmas Day
and like Merle
we’ll get through the tears
it’s a long road to Christmas this year
(chorus)
it’s not only me and my family
it’s not just the man in the mirror
so many will struggle this Christmas
it’s a long road to Christmas this year

Dr. BLT continues to sing about the things that need to be sung about.

Christmas, 2008 has come and gone
but Dr. BLT is still goin' strong.
He may not have hung out with Merle,
but, at least, Merle is still around, goin' from the hospital to the concert hall, and havin' a ball...another Christmas miracle.
Perhaps, next Christmas, BLT's dream will come true and we'll all be hanging out, celebrating, and performing at the Crystal Palace...even my soul band, Blue Mirror. Stranger things have happened.

Yes indeed. I'm looking forward to another year of musical dreams coming true and that applies to both your music, my music and our music.
