Even my 3-year-old daughter gets it: The Bakersfield sound is for her generation


For my 3-year-old daughter, there's no such thing as a "Bakersfield sound generation gap."  When Bakersfield sound legend Lloyd Reading (pictured here with her) came by to visit about a week ago, she became an instant fan, and danced up a storm as he sang some of the old Bakersfield sound classics he used to sing at the Blackboard and other venues associated with the apex of the Bakersfield sound movement. 

Lloyd Reading is taking a leadership role in passing on the Bakersfield sound to new generations.  He is the quintessential mentor and quintessential cross-generational bridge builder of the Bakersfield sound movement.

Children are the future.  We must make our rich cultural heritage accessible to them, so that they can participate in their rightful inheritance.
