No Guts No Glory: I'll be approaching "Sonny and Red" about recording this tailor-penned duet

Welcome to the No Guts No Glory edition of Lyric Today/Hear it Tomorrow.  The following is a duet I penned this morning, especially for Sonny Langley and Red Simpson, a couple of local Bakersfield Sound legends.

Whether they agree to record it or not, is their business, and they should feel no obligation to record it.  Who am I to even approach them with such a song?  I'm not worthy to step on the same Bakersfield Sound ground.  So why would I dare to be so foolish?

No Guts, no Glory, that's why.   Here's my duet for two of the Bakersfield Sound's last men standing.

Sonny and Red

words and music by Dr BLT copyright 2008

we're a couple of survivors

survivors of a bygone day

we're a couple of survivors

Trout's is where you'll hear us sing and play

we got together for a new song

just to sing about the good old days

but we're making every day a new day

and you'll find that we are here to stay

chorus:

Sonny and Red

together my friend

we're makin' brand new history

the Bakersfield Sound

will surely come around

come around again and again

we're a couple country singers

Kern is the county we come from

we're a couple guitar pickers

we hang out here

there's nowhere else to run

everybody's got a story

everybody's got a song to sing

Sonny and Red

we heard just what you said

what you we request

is what we're here to bring

we don't care

just where you come from

we don't care

no matter where you've been

you're all welcome

to enter the doors

come and join us in the song we sing

we're a couple of survivors

I'm Sonny

and my name is Red
