The first Time Daddy Took a Drink: inspired by pages 8-10 in George Jones autobiography

Psychologists are often accused of trying to get into peoples' heads. Personally, I would rather get into their hearts, try to feel their pain (or whatever else it may be that they are feeling), and try to convey that in asong.
Lately, I've been inspired, not only by the songs of George Jones, but by his autobiography. I'm only at page 11, and his story has already inspired me to write two songs. Here's the second:
The First Time Daddy took a Drink

words and music by Dr BLT copyright 2008
the first time daddy took a drink
was when my sister, Ethel, died
it was too much for him to bear
before that
' didn't have a care
from that day on
the man would snap
my mama's face, old daddy slapped
the family didn't sleep a wink
the first time daddy took a drink
I would be born five years from then
and I would get to know him well
that dark side would come to be
the darker side inside of me
and in the middle of the night
he'd stumble in, turn on the light
wake us all up, and make us sing
and I would strum the guitar strings
Helen was the beaten sis
and she would wake
with bleedin' lips
her beatings made Dub marry her
and rest is really quite a blur
the first time daddy took a drink
it made prisoners of us all
when he was sober he was fine
he loved us then
it was divine
but when the bottle stole his soul
he would strike out before he'd think
it made my mama's torn heart sink
the first time daddy took a drink
